Game Day Traffic

After four years of avoiding scheduling conflicts with the Marshall University Thundering Herd football season, Tsubasacon's streak has finally come to an end.  On Saturday, October 2nd, 2010, Marshall University will be hosting a home football game at the Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington.  While this should not disrupt the convention in any way, Tsubasacon would like to give this matter due diligence by providing you some tips to prevent some future headaches.

The Joan C. Edwards Stadium can seat 40,000 people, and while only a fraction of them will be using hotels (either the night before the game, or the night following the game), they will most likely be using the same two hotels that are recommended for Tsubasacon patrons: The Holiday Inn and Pullman Plaza.  If you are out-of-town and plan to stay for the entire weekend, be sure to book your hotel room very far ahead of time.

The Saturday of the game, the roads leading to the stadium (shown in red on the map below) will be extremely congested and the area surround the Marshall University campus will be equally deadlocked.  The below map highlights the road from the 5th Street Exit (shown in green), an alternative route off of I-64 that avoids the stadium, campus, and (hopefully) the majority of the traffic.

Parking

Parking Map

Coming to Tsubasacon and Huntington, WV is a great experience for everyone. Whether it's your first time at the Convention or you're a regular, knowing where to park may be a challenge.

Listed below are several suggestions for parking while you and your friends join us at Tsubasacon this year. Note that the big red box is the Convention Center & Arena and blue boxes are the two hotels within three blocks of the Convention. If you happen to be staying at the hotels, please make sure to get a pass from the front desk so your vehicle will not be towed.

Each parking area that you see on the map may have restrictions or limitations. Please check the parking area for information and regulations. Also, especially on Friday evening and all day Saturday, please grab your parking spot(s) early in the day. The Pullman Square area is traditionally very busy during the weekend and this year will be no exception.

Also, please do not park over by Wendy's or in the Holiday Inn parking lot if you are not dining or at the hotel. It is likely your car will be towed. There are a number of parking meters that are located throughout the downtown area close to the convention center if all of the parking areas are full. They are located within a close walking range of the convention center area.

If you have any questions, please email Doug Trovinger at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or stop by the Registration Desk for assistance. Please note that parking is limited and will go fast.
